Snowboarding is the only modality Olympic snowboarding practiced on a board instead of skis. Your proofs are divided into three main categories.

The first is called Alpine Examinations and is composed of the disciplines Parallel Slalom and Giant Parallel SlalomIt is characterized by two athletes going down parallel courses and progressing through different heats until the winner is determined.

Parallel Slalom (PSL): two riders simultaneously descend parallel slalom courses with nearby flags that indicate the path to be traveled. Snowboarders, therefore, need to wear shorter boards to perform well on the track. The difference in the competitors’ 1st descent times determines the 2nd start.

Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS): similar to the PSL, two riders simultaneously descend parallel courses but in Giant Slalom, with the with the flags indicating the route to be covered further apart. one of the other, enabling the athletes to acquire greater speed. In the qualifying phase, all participants complete one timed round per track. The 16 fastest snowboarders make it to the final round, which is played in a knockout system.

The distance between them is 12 meters in PSL and 25 meters in PGS

The second is made up of just one discipline, the Snowboard Cross, an event in which the athletes, classified in individual descents, compete in elimination heats until the winner is determined.

Snowboard Cross (SBX): composed of two stages: a qualifying stage, in which the athletes perform individual downhills and are ranked by their best time. It is essentially a race track with various obstacles, including ramps, steep turns, steep sections, and undulations. The snowboarders race against the clock and/or compete with up to six athletes at the same time in the final race.

The third category of Snowboard events is FreestyleThe third category of events is Freestyle, composed of Half Pipe, Slopestyle, and Big Air, in which the athletes’ aerial maneuvers are evaluated by expert judges to determine the winner.

Halfpipe (HP):one of the rides that make up Freestyle, the Halfpipe is composed of descents on a “U” shaped track between 100m and 170m long. The athletes are judged on the execution, height, style, and difficulty of the tricks. The best note or combination of notes wins.

Slopestyle (SS):Slopestyle (SS): another Freestyle event, the Slopestyle is marked by a course with a variety of obstacles, including ramps of different heights, rails, and bunkers, where the athletes are judged on the maneuvers they perform, scoring the best descent or combination of descent scores with similar criteria as the halfpipe event.

Big Air (BA):the third event of the freestyle, Big Air made its Olympic Games debut in PyeongChang, 2018. Consisting of 2 or more jumps on a mega ramp after the descent on an acceleration ramp, the BA is characterized by a great maneuver after a radical descent on a mega ramp.
